Translating Coastal Earth Systems into Ecological Literacy. Bridging the gap between dynamic watershed environments and modern learners through interactive science, innovative game design, and environmental training.

Strategic Formation & Initiative Review (2026–2027)

Headwaters & Marine Stewards® pairs physical earth science with modern instructional systems and a maker mindset to make watershed processes tangible, accessible, and actionable across Northern New England.

Guided by our Board of Directors, HMS is currently conducting an executive and academic evaluation of our inaugural program pathways. To ensure maximum educational impact, regional relevance, and institutional sustainability, we are actively reviewing three distinct programmatic models for deployment.

Three Strategic Pathways

Headwaters & Marine Stewards - Digital Field Classroom

Pathway 01: Serious Games & Coastal Simulation

  • Focus: Digital translation, serious games, and interactive earth-system simulations.
  • The Concept: Bridging the gap between complex oceanographic research and public understanding by developing award-winning digital learning environments, gamified coastal dynamics, and browser-ready interactive simulations for secondary and higher education.
  • Target Stakeholders: University marine research labs, federal STEM programs (NSF/NOAA), and secondary science educators.

Pathway 02: Physical-Digital “Lab-in-a-Box” STEM Toolkits

  • Focus: Tactile maker education and hands-on laboratory experiences.
  • The Concept: Pairing compact, beautifully engineered physical tabletop models and sediment-transport activities with digital media. Delivering turnkey, NGSS-aligned laboratory experiences that give students authentic fieldwork engagement inside the classroom with zero field liability.
  • Target Stakeholders: District science department chairs, Title IV STEM coordinators, and homeschool science networks.

Pathway 03: Blue Economy Workforce & Technical Training

  • Focus: Environmental operations, continuing education, and technical micro-credentials.
  • The Concept: Applying enterprise-grade learning management systems to solve critical labor shortages in water quality, environmental field operations, and living shoreline installation. Replacing archaic static training with modern, interactive certification pathways.
  • Target Stakeholders: Municipal utility associations, environmental engineering firms, and workforce development agencies.
